View Full Version : How aren't I listed for this?

Ok, I'm targetting for "msn emotions", and at the moment am nowhere to be seen. However, I am on the first page for "msn emotions download" - which I'm not targetting for.

Anyone know what could be wrong with my site?

Thanks,
Mike

Where you have MSN Emotions on a line by itself, make it a H1 (this has helped me before). In the side nav, for example. That's the only instance where I can see that phrase on a line by itself...

Hmm.. See what your saying...

What do you think now?

Thanks,
Mike

EDIT: Doesn't matter now, found out through google :)

Well, I think you should use CSS to make the H1 text smaller ;)

Yeh, lol :)

Don't suppose you know how to do that Mark?

Thanks a lot,
Mike

This has happened to me a lot: aloe vera, cookware, kitchen appliances, cutlery, weight loss tips, weight loss

None of those keywords rank in the first 9999 results for their respective sites. Ok, some of them hardly have any PR, but they're listed for other keywords and I would at least expect them to feature in the first 10,000 results. Weight loss tips used to have a PR of 5 and still never featured for its primary keywords (I've removed the SEO on that site now in case you look at it).

It seems to be hit and miss.

It's really strange, I just haven't a clue what google is doing.

You guys are forgetting that digitalpoint only searches the first 200 results max - it is a little misleading when it says 9999, you could infact be 201.

I think the default is less than 200 too, you need to go to preferences to change it.

Oh, I didn't know that!

Are you sure that's right? It's logged my site at, like, 9847 or something like that before, and I haven't changed any settings.

Well, my prefs were set to 50 (!), changed it to 200, and one keyword is showing now.

Nothing, still, for my CC site though :(

I think this is probably either appearing at or disappearing from 152. If you appeared at 152, it will list 9847 as you daily increase, or vice versa if you drop from place 152.

Check your preferences and see what the limit is.

I asked the digitalpoint guy on the SP forum if he could change 9999 to N/A in the position because it was misleading. He changed it, but the system is still built around a default of 9999 if you site isnt in the first 200. So you get misleading improvements and drops.

www.LowInterestCards.co.uk - it's doing sod all traffic-wise (although, out of, say, 100 *real* visitors - not just people being nosey;) - I've made about $75).

Yeah, you're right. It is very misleading. I am set up for the first 200 and it doesn't go above that. Thanks for letting us know.

That's very good indeed. If you can bring in the traffic, that site will have you sorted :) Why isn't it in your sig? If I were you, I would be trying to promote it like mad.

Because the traffic received from here is not what my site needs - I want to keep the stats clean so I know the traffic I get is from people seeking my site's topic :) (if that makes sense). I know it might help its PR, but not enough for it to be worth having misleading stats...

Try using <h2><h3> or <h4>

These are header tags in smaller fonts.

Mike

I think search engines treat <h1> better though...

The <h1> tag is ranked higher Mike, if you have more than one rank of header tag on the page. They're seen in numerical order <h1> receiving the highest, then down the ladder. However, if you have no <h1> above it, <h2> is going to be seen as the big dog, and it's still title text just the same. If you substitute <b> for the header tag it's still going to be seen as title text, if it's in the first 200 words on the page, and the title text and keyword utilization in that text is what you're going to be ranked on more so, than which <h> tag you select.

If you try to validate the site for section 508, (Accessibility Standards), in that fashion, it will however spit out a validation error, stating the heading tags aren't in proper sequence, or one is missing. Or, if they're all there but are out of order, it will feed you an error they're out of sequence as well.

As a sidenote Mike... in looking at the source on the Squirrel Fishing (http://www.eecs.harvard.edu/~yaz/en/squirrel_fishing.html) site visited in other thread last night. Title is in <h2> as an example of what I suggested above!
