Big site help!

HI guys,
I am going to build a website for one of my clients that is on the same scale as myspace and facebook. Can anyone help me with any special requirements that I need rather than building a run of the mill website?

It will obviously need to handle 100's of 1000's of users. Can this be accomplished with PHP and MYSQL? Are these technologies robust enough?

What about server? Bandwidth? Security?

If I were you I would build it as a Google app. Which scales well.

Trying to build it by buying a bunch of hardware out of the gate would be a waste if it doesn't take off.

IMHO, this is one of those "If you have the ask"... kind of questions.

To each his own but I'd hire someone who knows what they are doing with that many users.

Problems that don't exist with 30,000 users a day exist with 50,000 and so-on.
