"Microsoft's self-serve advertising offering for publishers is still under development and is currently in a private pilot phase, being tested by select publishers who met the participation requirements," Microsoft said. "The private pilot phase began earlier this year."

Microsoft pointed publishers interested in the pilot to sign up for the trial.

"It's our intention to continue to expand our high quality network and relevant audience gradually and intelligently over time for our advertisers," Microsoft said. "We will evaluate customer interest and product performance as we move through the private pilot, but we have no specific launch plans to announce at this time."

About time? Considering yahoo failed miserably..

Microsoft has been rolling out some pretty good ad tech lately & are quite business savvy, have loads of cash. I guess the challenge is bringing in local businesses to advertise, and maintaining decent revenue for its publishers.

Anyone remember how much adsense publishers contribute to google's overall revenues?

Lets hope they do a little better job than Yahoo did.

Indeed. It would be nice to see some real competition here.

I saw a site with them other day - looked just like adsense, with slightly different margin widths/heights.

Two 300x250 blocks. Possibly on a forum at top. Can't remember site.

This is great news!! My google adsense CTR ratio had its first day where it was under 1%.. I remember when it was 10% with the new google ads. Hopefully MS can deliver this also!!

I doubt it - people are used to text ads now... The only way they could do it is by allowing complete styling of the text ads (you choose how to place them so they look exactly like other links on your site) - but obviously microsoft are not the type that would allow that!
