Changes to domain name system

BBC News story http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7475986.stm on ICANN's approval of the changes to allow for more domain names. Not sure if its a good thing or not, .com still remains favourite and understood world wide.

Exactly .com/.net is synonymous to an internet site. If you tell someone 'mysite.apples' they probably won't know what you're talking about.

I could see people just typing .ebay or .google, but beyond the big brands, who knows.
