Search Engine Submission Guide

I honestly hope you have never paid a third party to submit your site to search engines, and if you have I hope you never do it again. The fact is you do not need anyone to submit your site for you, you can do it yourself. You also do not need monthly submissions or anything of that nature. Once you are in the search engines you do not need to keep resubmitting to stay in.

Below you'll find a list of the places you need to submit to, you'll notice the list is fairly short. You may find software out there that claims to submit to "1500 search engines, directories, and link pages." Such a claim is misleading. There are only 5 major search engines, and a handful of important directories. In reality such submission services submit your site to about 1490 worthless places. For any site the submission plan above below be all you need.

Search Engines

You only need to submit to the following search engines, which make up 95% of all search engine traffic.

  • Google
  • Yahoo
  • MSN
  • Teoma.com/Ask.com currently there is no submission option for this engine. Just get linked to from somewhere.

Directories

You should submit to the following directories if you can afford it.

The benefit of being listed in directories is that in addition to traffic from that directory it is another incoming link for you, and that'll increase your ranking on all the search engines, and for that reason you may also consider getting a listing in these smaller directories:
