Site Architecture: Optimizing your Internal Links

The other main type of linking is mesh or web linking. In this type of structure every page of the site links to every other page, as shown in the diagram below:

This type of linking structure is best in instances where you want to spread PageRank around your site more evening and is most appropriate for sites with a smaller amount of pages (so that all pages can have a link on the menu). This type of structure is also good for a site that gives a little information on a wide variety of topics. For instance if you had a site about cars with a page or two of information on every major make and model you wouldn't really want to focus PR on your homepage since for a generic car search you don't have much hope of coming up first. But by using a mesh structure you distribute your PR evenly among all of the various car models, instead of focusing it on your homepage, so your sub-pages have a better chance of getting ranked well.

Hybrid linking structures of both of these models are possible as well. You might use an overall hierarchical structure to govern your various categories while using a mesh structure within each category. In general just remember that the more internal links you have the more your PageRank will be spread out
